Elder Services

Elder services are designed to provide early intervention, prevention and treatment specifically targeted to the aging population.  Staff work to promote specialized age-sensitive mental health services for older adults, and to develop culturally sensitive information regarding community services for this population.

Older persons have many of the same Mental Health needs as younger people, however are less likely than younger counterparts to reach out for help.  As many as 75% of depressed older Americans are not receiving the treatment they need placing them at increased risk for clinical depression related physical problems and suicide.

Outreach staff work closely with other Shiawassee county advocacy groups including the Coalition Against Vulnerable Adult Abuse, Nursing Homes and the Elderly at Risk Program.
